Just Decoration (WOW) – 2021 - 2025
stainles steel on painted extruded plastic, 108 x 120 cm
The beautifully typeset inscription, and thus the artwork itself, not only anticipates but also evokes a ‘WOW’ reaction from the viewer, simply through the sheer power of the word itself. The artwork reflects not only its surroundings but also the viewer, thereby making the viewer a part of the work. This creates a form of dialogue where ‘WOW’ can be both the artwork’s reaction to the viewer and the viewer’s reaction to the artwork, to themselves, or to the meeting of the two.
Sale – 2021
acrylic on ceramics, 100 cm high
The paper shopping bag is ubiquitous in consumer culture and is directly linked to the act of buying, carrying purchases, and the temporary satisfaction of acquisition. “SALE” is a powerful, universal call to action in retail. It implies desire, opportunity, and often, a perceived reduction in value—a striking contrast to the artworks’ probable increase in value.
Paper bags are meant to be temporary and quickly discarded. Iron, however, is durable. A “SALE” logo (which, in this case, also becomes a brand), typically associated with fleeting deals and planned obsolescence, is here cast in a material meant for timeless- ness. This is a sharp critique of consumer culture and serves as a memorial to the very concept of the “SALE.
